To complete your bunk bed, you need mattresses and bunkie boards. We offer only top quality mattresses and bunkie boards.
Our bunk beds are designed to allow up to 10 1/2" thick mattress and bunkie board on the top bunks and up to 14" on the bottom bunks. For safety reasons, ensure the upper edge of the guard rail is at least 5" above the top of the mattress.
Optionally, we can modify our bunk beds so that the upper bunk can allow up to 15" mattress and bunkie. The downside of using thick mattresses is the wasted space between and above the bunk beds.
Bunkie boards are the mattress supports, similar in function to box springs, but made 'thin' for use on bunk beds. Our heavy duty bunkie's are padded and cloth covered and can support up to 400lbs on our beds.
We do not recommend using slats or particle board bunkie's for mattress supports. Gaps in the slats may cause premature mattress failure. Particle board? Need we say more?
A separate bunkie and mattress allows you to choose a more appropriate mattress for your needs.
Mattress companies have made mattresses thicker and thicker and thus its become increasingly harder to find suitable matrresses for bunkbeds. AdditTionally, most of the mattresses under 8" thickness are not suitable for adults to sleep on.
